He's just not that into you10/10 - 1 review

He's just not that into youAuthor: Greg Behrendt, Liz Tuccillo
Genre: How-To / Instruction
I heard about this book on a talk show one morning, before heading out of the house. When it comes to men, I'm about as clueless as a three-year-old in college. I thought, what the hell, might as well try this. Now Greg is so straight forward in this book, but at the same time you cant help but laugh. He speaks only the truth. There are little stories on every page and that know anyone can relate to. I quote him all the time. Now, before I make a careless mistake, I remember what I learned from this great great G R E A T book. If I could rate it a 20 out of ten, I would. Give it a try, its amazing.

No Plot? No Problem!...Write A Novel in 30 Days10/10 - 1 review

No Plot? No Problem!...Write A Novel in 30 DaysAuthor: Chris Baty
Genre: How-To / Instruction
Best book I've ever read. Okay, that might be overstating it a bit but I LOVED this author. He's very funny yet it was still a serious how-to for writing a novel - the best of two worlds. I actually didn't finish the book as the end part is for people in the process of writing a book and looking ahead is supposed to ruin the process so I will have to wait to finish reading until I've started writing.
One would think that if you have no interest in writing a novel there'd be no point in reading this book - that may be true but I had a great time reading it just because of the author's style of writing. Even the design of the book was really cool - the icons and so forth matched the tone and content well. Highly recommended, especially if writing for fun or career is of particular interest.

The Little Red Writing Book10/10 - 1 review

The Little Red Writing BookAuthor: Brandon Royal
Genre: How-To / Instruction
Twenty powerful principles of structure style and readability. These things are promised on the cover of the book and they are actually there. Quick, concise, clear guide, this book is indeed helpful to anyone wanting to improve their writing skills. It gives you exercises to practice but doesn't leave you with a lot of writer's, "mumbo jumbo", so to speak. Well written and informative I'd recommend this for any writer's library.

The Elements of Mystery Fiction9/10 - 1 review

The Elements of Mystery FictionAuthor: William G, Tapply
Genre: How-To / Instruction
While looking to improve my writing skills for whodunits, I came across this most helpful book to study the elements. Was I wrong about thinking I could use the knowledge I gained from reading hundred of these, my mistake was quickly caught. This genre is fun, but it takes a good memory, plot and believable characters to keep people to even want to guess whodunnit for several hundred pages. It’s clear, concise and not overwhelming. Very helpful.

The Runner's Handbook9/10 - 1 review

 The Runner's HandbookAuthor: Bob Glover
Genre: How-To / Instruction
An AMAZINGLY COMPREHENSIVE guide to running with sections on injury, shoes, women's running, mental aspects of running, and of course training programs.

This book is for beginning and intermediate runners although it certainly covers the gamut, including marathon running. I believe there is also versions for the competitive / experienced runner.

I've heard lots of praise for this book from those who've never run before as well as those who had slacked off and got back into it after reading it. Bob Glover and his two co-writers are very experienced runners & coaches but they also make jokes throughout the book and emphasize fun as well as fitness.

My only real criticism would be that, although this book is a 2nd edition reprint, it is still fairly old (1996 I think) so some of the info may be a bit dated. But if you know a runner or someone who would like to try it, buy them this book.

How I Write: Secrets of a Bestselling Author8/10 - 1 review

How I Write: Secrets of a Bestselling AuthorAuthor: Janet Evanovich, Ina Yalof
Genre: How-To / Instruction
The author of the Stephanie Plum series offers up writing advice. I saw a spoiler before I realized that this book should only be read AFTER you've read all of the series. The book seemed like it offered valuable advice for those looking to publish as well as some insight into the author of the Stephanie Plum series. If you're a fan of that series, you'll see a little bit of Stephanie in Janet Evanovich.

The Biggest Loser: The Weight Loss Program...8/10 - 1 review

The Biggest Loser: The Weight Loss Program...Author: Biggest Loser Experts & Cast
Genre: How-To / Instruction
I must warn in advance that I read this book out of interest because of the show - not to actually put to use material in it to lose weight.

If you like the show, I think you'll like this book. The information provided seemed like a really good overall basic plan to help people get started on a lifestyle change (and lose weight as part of that). Some recipes are provided at the end and I was surprised at how many sounded really appealing - I may even try some.

Wake Up or Die Poor8/10 - 1 review

Wake Up or Die PoorAuthor: Christina Quinn
Genre: How-To / Instruction
This book outlines a strategy to use to use the money an individual or family makes in the smartest way. I like that it doesn't tell you to not buy lattes or eat out, but it just asks that you look at all the information and make decisions the work best for you/your family (as the case may be). The model is based on running a small business and has lots of examples of various situations and the calculations required. (It's Canadian too, so based on living in Canada.)

He's Just Not That Into You7.3/10 - 3 reviews

He's Just Not That Into YouAuthor: Greg Behrendt, Liz Tuccillo
Genre: How-To / Instruction
This book was a quick, entertaining read. It's meant to be a helpful wake up call to women about how to interpret mens actions, which is not to interpret them at all but take them for face value. The writer was fairly comical, at times it got a little corny. A good book for someone out there needing a boost in their self esteem. Cute book, would probably only recommend to someone who could USE it.
