This is a great book. It is a story of survival and of relationships. There are a few pages that are hard to read,it has some very violent sections but it does not ruin the book. I would recommend this book to any adult.

Blindness
Hmmm... mixed feelings on this one. Great premise - an inexplicable blindness epidemic overtakes a city throwing life into unimaginable despair and chaos. However, I found it just a bit tedious toward the middle and might have given up had I not already been sucked into the premise and wanting to find out how it gets resolved. And I admit it was an interesting study of society and how people react to extreme adversity.

The writing style is unique, with lots of crazy run on sentences, and lots of commas, and dialogue even embedded within, sometimes hard to follow, yet I did enjoy the style when the story was going somewhere, So check it out, says this reviewer.

While I thought the book was somewhat powerful (in the examination of humans at different states of despair) and had a very interesting premise, I didn?t quite feel it was all that it could be. With such an out of the ordinary first few chapters, I felt the author could have taken us even further in the ups and downs of the story. Maybe I was missing the point and it was meant to read more like a character study, but I personally wished for more depth, or rather - breadth - to the storyline because so much more was available given the premise.

what an interesting, thought provoking story. Really intriguing characters and a moving storyline. The writing style was a bit challenging (all those commas), but I think it added to the feel of the book overall. thanks for the great recommendation!

An interesting premise. A man suddenly goes blind while stopped at a light and the story continues from there.
The writing style is unusual, sentences are simply strung together without breaks.
While interesting overall, I found it tedious at times but struggled through and was pleased at the end that I had done so.
An interesting look at humanity & fear, with a very original style of writing.

One of the best books I've ever read. It's a powerful narative depicting the world in disarray, showing the best and worst in people.

Jose Saramago's unique writing style blending perfectly with this engaging story.

His lack of names (for both the city and the characters) make the reader feel as blind as the characters in the book.

Great for anyone looking for a deep, powerful read
